Jung Eui-Chul

Abstract
Health communication refers to the use and study of communication activities to inform and affect individual and collective decisions that promote health. It becomes an essential field of health promotion efforts by employing diverse communication methods to foster health in various communication contexts. This work looks into the trend and history of health communication as well as theoretical paradigms and cases of health communication studies. Due to the advancement of communication technologies as well as the growing importance of interactive communication in the context of constructing and exchanging health messages, including clinical information exchange in patent-health care provider communication, it seems essential to understand useful strategies and tactics to disseminate effective health messages through appropriate channels. In doing so, culture-centered health communication approach, including an audienceinvolved/ culture-centered health message development/dissemination and a patient-centered communication
pattern, can create positive changes in people¡¯s awareness, knowledge, attitude and behavior related to health issues. This approach further brings forth social, cultural and environmental changes that can reshape individual and community-level health outcomes.
